Nigeria Names 28-Man Squad for 2025 AFCON in Morocco

Abuja, Dec. — The Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Eric Sékou Chelle, has released a 28-man list for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to hold in Morocco from Dec. 20.

The list, made public on Wednesday, features goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defender Calvin Bassey, midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and forward Victor Osimhen among the players selected for the continental championship.

Also included are Semi Ajayi, Zaidu Sanusi, Frank Onyeka, Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze, while Francis Uzoho, Igoh Ogbu and Paul Onuachu return to the squad after previous absences.

England-based Ryan Alebiosu, Israel-based Usman Muhammed, Italy-based Ebenezer Akinsanmiro and Belgium-based Tochukwu Nnadi have been handed first-time invitations. Croatia-based Salim Fago Lawal also earns a maiden call-up.

The team will play a friendly match against the Pharaohs of Egypt on Dec. 16 at the Cairo International Stadium. They are expected to depart Cairo two days later for Fès, where they will be based for their Group C matches.

Nigeria will open their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on Dec. 23, before facing Tunisia on Dec. 27 and Uganda on Dec. 30.
