Abeokuta/Lagos, Dec.30,2025 – The Ogun and Lagos State Governments have confirmed that British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday.
The governments said in a joint statement that the vehicle conveying Mr Joshua and three other occupants collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the death of two persons.
The statement expressed the condolences of both state governments to the families of the deceased, praying for strength and comfort for them in the difficult moment.
According to the statement, Mr Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos for treatment.
It said that following comprehensive medical examinations, doctors confirmed that both patients were in stable condition and did not require any emergency medical intervention.
“Anthony Joshua is conscious and has been in communication with his family.
A full medical team has been assembled and will continue to monitor their condition closely,” the statement read.
The Ogun and Lagos State Governments said they were closely monitoring the situation and would ensure that all affected persons received the best possible medical care.
The statement added that investigations had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The governments also appealed to members of the public to respect the privacy of Mr Joshua and his family at this time.
