The Uru Improvement Union (UIU)-Diaspora has reaffirmed its commitment to the growth and development of Uru Community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo.

The President of the union, Chief Nnamdi Onukwufor, made this known in a statement issued after the election of the union’s executives, held virtually.

Onukwufor said that the new leadership would prioritise the welfare of members and the overall development of the community.

“Today marks not just the beginning of a leadership tenure, but the beginning of a shared journey rooted in unity, service and development.

“As diasporans, though we may be far from home, our hearts remain firmly rooted in our community.
“Our mission is clear: to promote the welfare of our members and the development of Uru,” he said.

He said that the development agenda of the union would go beyond infrastructure to include human capital development, education, economic empowerment and cultural preservation.

According to him, members of the union must unite, pool resources and build partnerships that will bring sustainable progress to the community.

“No contribution is too small, and no effort is insignificant when driven by love for our community,” he said.

The president pledged to lead with transparency, inclusiveness and dedication, while working closely with leaders at home and other diaspora branches to achieve the union’s objectives.

Onukwufor also expressed loyalty to the President-General of Uru Community, Chief Ken Emekowa, commending his leadership and commitment to unity and progress.

“We recognise his unwavering dedication and pledge our full support as we work together for the betterment of our people,” he said.

The UIU-Diaspora is made up of indigenes of Uru Community residing in the Americas, Europe, Asia and parts of Southern Africa.
