Kano, May 14, 2026. The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF) have commenced a capacity-building seminar for teachers and sports officers in Kano State under the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP).
The seminar, organised with the support of Olympic Solidarity, is aimed at equipping participants with IOC-designed toolkits to promote the values of excellence, friendship and respect in schools and sports activities.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, President of the NSSF, Mrs Olabisi Joseph, said the programme was part of efforts to strengthen grassroots sports development in the country.
Joseph said no fewer than 100 teachers and sports officers from across Kano State participated in the seminar, which ended on Wednesday.
She described schools as the foundation for grassroots sports development and a pathway to elite sports attainment.
According to her, the Kano programme is the first in a three-part national series designed to improve school sports across Nigeria.
“The next seminar in the series will hold in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, from May 18 to May 20, while the Lagos edition is scheduled for June 2 to June 4, 2026,” she said.
One of the IOC-certified experts facilitating the programme, Prof. Abiodun Moronfolu, led the team of resource persons at the seminar.
Mrs Kemi Obidahunsi, Assistant Secretary of the NOC in charge of NSSF, coordinated the event.
