Imo Community Diaspora Leader Promises Economic, Social Development For Indigenes

Date:

The newly elected President of Uru Improvement Union in the United States of America (UIU-USA), Mr. Chibuzor Onukwufor, has assured that his administration will focus on economic and social development for the people of the community.

Uru is in Isi-Ogwa autonomous community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

Onukwufor, an Engineer, disclosed this in his acceptance speech after the union’s election, in Texas, USA.

He said his leadership will also pursue initiatives that will improve livelihoods, support education, strengthen healthcare access, and invest in critical infrastructure.

“I stand before you today with a deep sense of humility, gratitude, and responsibility as I accept the honor of serving as President of the Uru Improvement Union, USA. I thank you for the trust you have placed in me. This is not just a position—it is a call to service, a call to lead with integrity, and a call to uplift our beloved Uru community.

“First and foremost, I acknowledge the foundation laid by those who came before us. Your sacrifices, commitment, and vision have brought us to where we are today. We honor your work, and we commit to building upon it.

“Today, I make a solemn promise to all sons and daughters of Uru—both at home and in the diaspora—that my leadership will be focused on economic and social development for our village,” he said.

Onukwufor also said “We will pursue initiatives that improve livelihoods, support education, strengthen healthcare access, and invest in critical infrastructure. Our goal is simple but powerful: to make Uru a community where opportunity thrives and every individual can reach their full potential.

“We will work collaboratively to empower our people—supporting small businesses, encouraging youth development, and promoting programs that foster unity and progress. Together, we will turn ideas into action and action into lasting impact,” he said.

The Uru disapora leader pledged the loyalty and cooperation of his administration to the parent body, UIU led by Chief Kenneth Emekowa, a legal practitioner.

According to him, “I also pledge my full loyalty and cooperation with the parent body, the Uru Improvement Union, under the able leadership of Chief Kenneth Emekowa.

“Our strength lies in our unity across borders. We will align our efforts, respect our shared vision, and work hand in hand to advance the collective interests of Uru everywhere.

“As I take on this responsibility, I commit to carrying the mantle of leadership with honor and dedication. I will listen to you, work with you, and stand for you. This administration will be one of inclusion, transparency, and accountability.” Onukwufor added.
