Young Doctors Workshop equips learners ahead of CAF African Schools Football Championship Zimbabwe 2026 kick-off

Date:

The CAF African Schools Football Championship has reinforced its commitment to player welfare and medical excellence with the successful hosting of a CAF Young Medics Workshop ahead of the Continental Finals in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The workshop, a specialised medical first aid course which brought together learners and the competition’s young medical officers was delivered ahead of the official start of the competition at Gateway High School from 06 – 10 April 2026.

Led by CAF Medical Manager, Dr Boubakary Sidiki, the workshop focused on enhancing the capacity of aspiring Medical Practitioners to respond effectively to medical emergencies in football.

Key areas covered included cardiac arrest, head injuries, and other life-threatening situations that require immediate and well-coordinated intervention.

CAF Director of Member Associations, Sarah Mukuna, praised the initiative, highlighting its importance in shaping a safer and more professional football environment across the continent.

“This workshop reflects CAF’s commitment to innovation and excellence, not only in developing young football talent but also in ensuring the highest standards of medical preparedness and player safety. Initiatives like these are key to building a holistic and sustainable football ecosystem in Africa,” said Mukuna.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship continues to set new benchmarks through impactful programmes that go beyond the field of play. By investing in the training and preparedness of medical personnel, the competition ensures that player safety remains a top priority.

As CAF’s flagship schools football programme prides itself on such innovation and remains CAF’s most ambitious youth development platform – combining education, safety and football excellence in shaping the future of the game in Africa.
